Fast interface for high density EEPROM memory is ideal for parameter storage in DTV, gaming, car infotainment, medical equipment and computer peripherals

Geneva,
July 26,2007 -
STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a world leader in serial non-volatile
memory ICs, today announced a new 1-Mbit serial EEPROM with SPI bus (serial
peripheral interface) in the tiny SO8N package with 150-mil (3.8mm) body width
– the first SPI serial EEPROM in the market to squeeze this high memory density
into such a small package. Also offered in the wider SO8W, the new M95M01 is
intended for the storage of fast-changing parameter data in consumer
electronics products such as digital TVs (DTV) DVD players and gaming, as well
as in medical equipment, industrial, car infotainment and computer peripherals.
ST’s SPI EEPROM family now offers 1-Kbit to 1-Mbit devices – the broadest
portfolio on the market.
The M95M01 is organized as 128-Kbits x 8, and supports Byte and Page
Write modes with a fast Write time of 256 Bytes in less than 5ms (less than
13-microseconds/byte typical). The chips are specified to retain Data for more
than 40 years, and offer Write endurance of more than 1 million Write cycles.
The operating temperature range for these serial EEPROMs is -40 to +85 degrees
C, and the memory operates over a wide 1.8V to 5.5V supply-voltage range for
maximum flexibility.
The very small size of the SO8N package, coupled with its fast SPI
interface, will offer new opportunities for manufacturers of digital TV sets,
DVD players and medical technology to reduce the board space required in their
applications, while increasing the amount of fast access memory available for
setup parameters, tuning information, user preferences and other data.
The M95M01 is available now in sample quantities, in both the SO8N and SO8W
RoHS-compliant packages, with volume production planned for July 2007. Pricing
for the M95M01 in volume is $1.50.
