STG3856
Product Page
| Mobile phones with the ability to support FM radio, MP3 player and baseband audio are becoming more widespread today. All the audio sources are selectively channeled to the mobile phone’s speaker or headphone, thus increasing the need to switch between the audio sources depending on user selection. In particular, since the audio source in a mobile phone is usually carried on differential lines, each audio source is required to have two lines out to the headphone or speaker. |
 |
| To meet the requirements of the new audio features in mobile phones, ST has introduced the STG3856, a high-speed CMOS low-voltage Dual Single Pole Triple Throw (SP3T) switch fabricated in silicon gate CMOS technology. The STG3856 reduces the bill-of-materials (BOM) and minimizes PCB space. Previously, 2 Dual SPDT switches or a quad SPDT switch were used to achieve the same function. |

Low ON-resistance (RON): 1.0Ohm at VCC = 4.3V |
 |
4.3V tolerant and 1.8V compatible threshold on digital control input at VCC = 2.3V to 4.3V |
 |
Wide operating voltage range: 1.65V to 4.3V single supply |
 |
High speed: tPD = 0.3ns (typ) at VCC = 3.0V |
 |
Ultra low power dissipation: ICC = 0.2A (max) |
The absolute maximum rating voltage is up to 5.5V. In order to ensure low quality loss, this product has a low RON of 1.0Ohm at VCC = 4.3V. RON is the measurement of the resistance of the switch when it is turned on (connected). RON flatness of each switch is around 0.4Ohm. The quiescent current is less than 200nA at 85°C.
The STG3856 also features a 1.8V compatible
threshold for the control pin with VCC = 4.3V. This means that the device could be powered directly from the LiOH battery, and at the same time this switch can be controlled by a low power MCU with VCC = 1.8V. Two control pins are used to select which switch to turn on, and both control pins are compatible with 1.8V logic input up to 4.3V.
| World's Smallest MLF Package |
The STG3856 is available in QFN12L, the world's smallest 12-pin MLF (Micro Leadless Frame) package: 2.2mm x 1.4mm package with a pitch of 0.4mm. This QFN package has a height of 0.55mm which is half the height of the standard MLF package, allowing a thinner mobile phone design.
The main applications of STG3856 are mobile phones with multiple audio sources, baseband audio, FM radios, MP3 players and ring-tone generators.
