74LX1G04
Single Gate / Inverter for Cellular Phones

Logic ICs - 74LX1G04b 74LX1G04 Product Page

Today’s cell phones require clock buffering of the system reference Voltage Controlled Temperature Controlled Crystal Oscillator (VCTCXO). The VCTCXO is used in these systems to ensure excellent phase noise performance, and to allow frequency stability to the Base Band ASIC and Transmitter PLLs.
ST's Single Gate / Inverter Solution
ST’s 74LX1G04 reference clock buffering solution is ideal for this application. This buffering solution provides enhanced signal drive (up to +/- 24mA), which guarantees effective phase locking performance of the PLL circuitry. This space saving approach allows the designer to conveniently place the single gate next to the VCTCXO.
These single gate buffers are provided by a number of integrated circuit manufacturers like Toshiba, Fairchild, TI and Philips.

Beetween VCTCXO & ASIC
Logic ICs - 74LX1G04The 74LX1G04 single gate inverter solution is used in the cellular application shown below. It is positioned between the VCTCXO, Base Band ASIC that provides the GSM/CDMA protocol control. It is also positioned between the VCTCXO and the RF transmitter.

Superior Performance
The 74LX1G04 offers the widest operating voltage range in the industry, from 1.65V to 5.5V, with a maximum standby current of 10µA much less than our competitors (20µA). The wide voltage range and low standby current is perfectly suited for current and next generation power efficient cell phone designs. This makes ST’s device a best choice over Toshiba’s TC7SZ04 and Fairchild’s NC7SZ04.
