STP24DP05 – highly-integrated, high-precision RGB LED driver
The STP24DP05 power logic device provides 24 constant-current outputs capable of driving RGB LEDs at up to 80 mA. It performs the work of three conventional 8-output drivers within a compact TQFP 7 x 7 mm footprint. The brightness of the red, green and blue channels can be optimized independently by adjusting each LED channel driving current from 5 mA to 80 mA via an external resistor per color group of eight outputs. It offers an industry best precision of ±3% bit-to-bit and ±6% chip-to-chip over the current output from 15 mA to 80 mA. It covers a wide operating temperature range of -40 oC to +125 oC.
Through high-density integration and RGB grouping, the device facilitates PCB routing, ultimately reducing PCB size and lowering the total BOM cost. By allowing closer spacing of pixels and constituent LEDs, the driver also enables higher display resolution.
The device is thermally protected with a built-in automatic thermal shutdown feature and also implements built-in error detection for short-to-ground, short-to-supply or open-line faults. The error detection mode can be remotely controlled via the dedicated pin provided or using specific digital keys through the device’s SPI port. Fault data is shifted out of the device via the same SPI with no additional pin. This minimizes the system downtime as it enables system-level diagnostic features, such as direct alerts to maintenance controllers.
Package options
