This board is an offline, wide-range, single-output general-purpose power supply capable of delivering up to 6 W through a 12 Vdc output voltage. It operates at a switching frequency of 60 kHz and is set up for secondary regulation with an optocoupler.
In low load conditions, it operates in automatic burst mode, while in overvoltage conditions, it operates in hiccup mode.
The main device used in this design is the VIPer12A, which combines a dedicated current-mode offline PWM controller with a high-voltage power MOSFET on the same silicon chip.
Other output voltages can easily be achieved by changing the transformer and a few components on the board. The following configurations can be obtained:
