Features and Description
Reusable design (the ORCAD source files are available free of charge)
Supports several applications with six-step commutation or 6-signal PWM (sine wave-modulated) outputs including: 3-phase AC induction motor control, 3-phase BLDC/AC PM motor control (6-step sensorless) and 3-phase BLAC PM motor control (sinusoidal driven, with hall sensors)
Optimized layout providing a very low level of interference between power and signal noise
Inverter stage based on short-circuit rugged IGBTs

Click for larger imageThis reference design kit (RDK) is based on an inverter topology designed to efficiently drive three types of motors: 3-phase BLDC/AC permanent magnet (in six-step mode), 3-phase AC induction and 3-phase BLAC PM (sinusoidal driven). A plug-in daughter control board (STEVAL-IHM001V1) based on the ST7FMC microcontroller is required to drive the motor.
The inverter bridge is composed of six short-circuit protected IGBTs with current capability determined by the board’s power rating. The IGBT bridge is driven by three drivers (located on the control board), which feature high side and low side functionality in a single chip. The auxiliary power supply is implemented through the use of a VIPer (vertical intelligent power enhanced regulator), which combines a high voltage vertical power MOSFET with state-of-the-art PWM circuitry.
