VN770 MOTOR DRIVER FOR DOOR CONTROL SYSTEMS

Besides the electrical adjustment of the mirrors, the remote control of central door locking is also a key comfort function in the car door.

In a fraction of a second, the motor must be controlled to open or close the lock mechanism. This means that a short operating time, below 100msec is required, as well as a high starting and blocking current of up to 6A.

ST's three-chip solution, the VN770 is an excellent compromise between semiconductor cost and optimal driver performance.

The VN770 is a device formed by three monolithic chips housed in a standard SO28 package with an isolated frame: a double high side and two low side switches with fully protected monitoring functions.

Both the double high side and low side switches are made using ST's proprietary VIPower® technology.

The bridge diagonal on-resistance of this family of products varies between 130m½ and 270m½ per leg, according to the device required. This resistance is sufficient to safely drive lock motors with high torque requirements.

Although the power consumption may briefly increase at the end of a lock operation, no power package is necessary, as the thermal impedance of the frame takes over the chip cooling.

Currerntly, STMicroelectronics offers a range of four pin-compatible motor drivers for door control systems: the VN770, VN770K, VN771 and VN771P.
